Will Hansi Flick experiment with formations?

Flick has been sticking to a traditional 4-2-3-1 formation since his appointment as the first team manager in November. The German manager has enjoyed great results in big games with this formation and demolished lesser sides with great authority.

However, there is no harm in making the team more tactically flexible. Moreover, Flick has many players to his disposal that are versatile. In Europe, sometimes the team needs to adopt a different approach to capitalize on the opponent’s weakness, so Flick has the opportunity to mix it up in the next two games where results don’t have significance.

Using three center-backs could be an intriguing setup for Die Roten considering the depth they have in that position. Moreover, Alphonso Davies could be a dream player in the wing-back role where his offensive and defensive duties will be balanced.

Midfield is another area where games are won in Europe. Bayern has great quality and depth in this area. A diamond in midfield or a three-man midfield will be an interesting approach to ponder for Flick when they come up against a European giant. The game against Freiburg is the ideal platform to experiment with systems. Considering Flick has been astute tactically, it will be interesting to see whether he decides to experiment with formations.
