Bayern Munich: Top five player transfers in 21st century
Robert Lewandowski- Goal machine for Bayern Munich
The top name in the list will not surprise anyone as Robert Lewandowski has been hands down the best signing Die Roten has made this century when all things are considered. The Polish striker has been a goal machine since joining from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2014.
Lewandowski was Europe’s lethal forwards in Europe. He stunned the world by scoring four goals against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu in 2013. His consistent performances for Dortmund attracted so much interest from various top clubs across Europe. However, Bayern acted fast and sealed his transfer when his contract was expiring in Dortmund.
The Polish striker’s first season in Bavaria was underwhelming by his standards, but he still managed to score 25 goals across all competitions. Ever since that debut campaign in Bayern shirt, Lewandowski has achieved a mind-blowing consistency, scoring at least 40 goals every season.
After looking for a move away from Bavaria two seasons ago, but Die Roten managed to keep him. He eventually made sure that he will send the remaining years of his peak in Bavaria by penning a new deal earlier this season. He has scored 44 goals across all competitions this season, his highest tally for a single campaign in his career.
With unprecedented domestic success, Lewandowski is hungry to get his hands on the Champions League trophy. He is not showing signs of slowing down right now, ageing like a fine wine. With 235 goals in 280 appearances after joining on a free transfer, Lewandowski is an iconic transfer in the club’s history, let alone being the best signing in this century.
