Joshua Kimmich- Bayern Munich’s main man in midfield
Die Roten has a great amount of depth in the midfield department, but Joshua Kimmich has been a mainstay in the starting XI this season. The German midfielder has been delivering consistent performances in midfield throughout the campaign.
In May, Kimmich had to execute a different role in the midfield department. He grabbed the control of the game against Union Berlin when other Die Roten players were sloppy in possession. The German midfielder also provided an assist for the all-important second goal by delivering pinpoint delivery from the corner.
Against Frankfurt Kimmich held his position in a deeper role, and showed his expansive passing range. He occasionally went ahead, but most of the game, he was operating as number six. Kimmich has made a habit of coming with goals in important games. He did that against Dortmund by scoring a brilliant goal that summed up him as a player. Great bit of awareness to see Roman Burki coming off the line and then chipping the ball above him from the edge of the box.
Flick decided to do change Kimmich’s role against Dusseldorf. The German midfielder had to be the engine in the midfield while Leon Goretzka sat in a deeper position. Kimmich was relentless with his pressing, covering every blade of the grass. He also grabbed an assist in this game with another perfect cross from the corner. After Lucas Hernandez’s substitution, he seamlessly slotted in central defense.
Kimmich is slowly becoming a leader on the pitch. Along with showing passion on the pitch, Kimmich also leads the team with his consistent performances. Moreover, his performances are hardly affected even if he is moved to different positions in a single game.
