Drastic Improvement in play for Bayern Munich

Last weekend, Bayern looked sloppy and rusty as they returned to action after a long break due to coronavirus. Passes were not accurate, ball control was not at a high level, and link-up play in the attack was missing. Bayern were lucky to play a weak team and get out with a win.

This weekend was much better in every aspect. The team looked like themselves from before the break, which is great news ahead of the game against Borussia Dortmund. The defensive lineup was the same this week and were elite in open play. David Alaba and Jerome Boateng were sharper and didn’t misplace passes, while the full-backs did a great job supporting both attack and defense.

The other notable aspect to this point was the attack. As previously stated, last week, the attack looked off, not lost or confused, but just not in sync. This week that was not the case. Hansi Flick made some changes in the starting lineup, starting Ivan Perisic and Kingsley Coman. Both players offered better ideas and had a positive influence on the match.

Perisic was a nuisance down the left side, while Coman showed off his dribbling down the right, assisting Robert Lewandowski for the third goal. Muller and Lewandowski were great together as always. Having Goretzka attack from a deeper midfield position opened up their entire offense. Hansi Flick should consider starting Goretzka in the same position during the midweek game. It is amazing to see that Bayern have three world-class midfielders to use at their disposal.

This point is important because Bayern’s toughest test of the season so far is Tuesday, and the team needs to be at their absolute best. Getting the team in top form at the business end of the season could help them to clinch the title with ease. Hansi Flick has several players he can rely on for this match, and it will be interesting to see what lineup he chooses.
