Bayern Munich players look rusty against Union Berlin- Player Ratings
Bayern Munich extended their winning run in the Bundesliga by clinching a 2-0 win over Union Berlin on Sunday.
Bayern Munich finally resumed their campaign on Sunday after a two-month layoff due to coronavirus pandemic. The defending league champions had to work hard for a win against Union Berlin, but they manage to continue their unbeaten run in 2020. Here are the player ratings from an intense game at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
Manager Grade
Hansi Flick — 6/10
Flick got the starting lineup spot on. Playing Leon Goretzka as number ten since Kingsley Coman was just returning from a minor knock. However, he waited too long to make changes in the second half. It didn’t hurt the team today, but delaying changes when things are not going team’s way may cost him in the future.
Player Grades
GK, Manuel Neuer — 6/10
In the initial stages of the game, Neuer had few saves to make as Union Berlin started the game on a strong note. As soon as the team got hold off the game, Neuer was a mere spectator at the park. He showed great awareness in the box on a few occasions but he hardly had to break sweat to claim the clean sheet.
DEF, Benjamin Pavard— 7.5/10
Pavard dominated the right flank throughout the game. He didn’t allow Christopher Lenz to get the better of him and bombed forward on every opportunity to support the attack. Scored his first league goal in six months to seal the game for Die Roten.
DEF, Jerome Boateng — 6/10
The veteran German defender endured a shaky start to the game as Anthony Ujah won duels against him. Similar to his team, Boateng grew into the game slowly. However, his passing was disappointing as he struggled to break lines as he usually does.
DEF, David Alaba — 6/10
Alaba endured the same problems which Boateng had in the first half. The Austrian did well defensively, but couldn’t complete his line-breaking passes as he usually does. The rustiness in his game was evidently visible. A timid evening for Alaba, but he will surely improve with more matches under his belt.
DEF, Alphonso Davies — 7.5/10
The young Canadian winger showed no signs of staleness despite playing his first competitive game in two months. Davies was camped in the final third as Die Roten dominated the proceedings. He kept on delivering dangerous crosses in the box, beating defenders with his pace and trickery. Relentless return to action for the teenager.
