Team News

Corentin Tolisso and Philippe Coutinho suffered serious injuries in April.  The French midfielder’s season is over, while the Brazilian is likely to be fit in time to play the last few games of the season. Niklas Sule has also started training on the pitch after a six month lay off due to knee injury, but he is still weeks away from playing competitive football. Javi Martinez is a doubt for a game as he had just started training with the first-team squad.

Despite these couple of injuries, Flick will have a big squad available for the game against Union Berlin. The two-month break allowed a couple of players to completely recover from their respective injuries, while few players would have shrugged off knocks and regained fitness.

Robert Lewandowski suffered an injury to shinbone during the game against Chelsea in February. The Pole kept on playing with the injury and completed 90 mins at Stamford Bridge. As a consequence of this injury, Lewandowski was ruled out of action for four weeks. During the break, he completed the recovery and started training with the first team.

Ivan Perisic was also on sidelines when football came to a halt at the start of March. The Croatian winger had suffered a serious ankle injury during training in February. Perisic also started training with the first team last month. Lucas Hernandez and Kingsley Coman may have regained complete fitness as they had just returned from respective injuries before the break.
