Alphonso Davies

Die Roten took the lockdown as an opportunity to negotiate new deals with important players of the squad. They succeeded in extending the deals of Thomas Muller and Alphonso Davies. The latter was set to enter the final year of his contract, while former’s recent exploits forced the club’s hand to extend his deal.

Davies broke into the team at the end of October, not as a winger but as a left-back. From that moment he has come leaps and bounds to become one of the most exciting young players in Europe. He seamlessly adapted to the left-back position and became an attacking threat on the left flank.

There are still few areas of Davies’ game that needs polishing, but his growth in such a short period has been astonishing. Similar to Lewandowski, the break came at the right time for Davies. He was not injured, but a young player may burn out with consistent playing time every week.

Davies will be fresh and raring to go when the league resumes this weekend. Flick will have a selection headache since Hernandez is now completely fit. However, it will be a huge surprise that Davies doesn’t start for Die Roten on Sunday. With a good amount of rest, Davies will continue from where he left before the league was suspended due to pandemic.
