Injured players returning to action

The only positive aspect of the suspension of football was that Bayern could get their injured players back to fitness by the time competitions resume. There have been few injuries during the last two months, but some important players are set to be fit for Sunday.

Die Roten suffered yet another serious injury in the buildup to the final phase of the season as Robert Lewandowski was ruled out for four weeks after the game against Chelsea in February. The Polish striker has completely recovered from this injury and should be in contention to start against Union Berlin.

Ivan Perisic has been out of action since the start of February after a freak training ground injury. The Croatian winger has started training with the main squad. He should be able to make the squad for Sunday and contribute in the last nine league games. Niklas Sule has also started training on the pitch, but the game against Union Berlin will be too soon for him to make a return.

Apart from injured players, Lucas Hernandez also got the time to build his fitness as he had just returned to the squad before football was suspended after a two-month layoff due to injury. Meanwhile, Corentin Tolisso and Philippe Coutinho are two players that were unfortunate to suffer injuries while training. The former is unlikely to play again this season.

It will be interesting to see whether Flick eases the likes of Lewandowski and Perisic back into action or decides to play them straight away. Since the schedule is set to be hectic, the German manager will have to manage the workload of players.
