Thiago Alcantara
Joshua Kimmich had firmly established himself as a regular player in midfield for Die Roten in the first half of the season. The German midfielder provided balance to the team, and his best qualities were used properly in midfield. Kimmich was also eager to continue playing in midfield for Bayern.
However, there was no fixed partner for Kimmich in the center of the park. Thiago Alcantara, Corentin Tolisso, and Leon Goretzka got chances to prove themselves, but all of them were not able to maintain the right amount of consistency in their performances.
After the winter break, Flick decided to stick with Thiago and Kimmich in the midfield for the first few games. The Spanish midfielder looked completely different player than he was during Hinrunde. The Spaniard was playing in the number eight role, linking up midfield and attack. He also kept on swapping roles with Kimmich throughout the game, helping the team to dictate the tempo of the game.
Thiago also contributed in the final third, scoring three goals in 11 games. The Spanish midfielder was the best midfield player on the pitch at Stamford Bridge in February. The clarity of role has allowed Thiago to utilise his wide range of skills and help Die Roten to be a dominant force in midfield in 2020. The Spaniard is reportedly next in line to get a new contract after enjoying his best form in the last 18 months. (Stats Courtesy: Whoscored)
