Chelsea 0-3 Bayern Munich

Die Roten got a decent and interesting draw in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The defending Bundesliga champions were set to face Chelsea. Hansi Flick had shown that he was good enough to manage games against Bundesliga clubs, so this was his biggest test as an interim manager.

The Bavarians were in good form ahead of first leg at the Stamford Bridge in February. They were unbeaten after the winter break. Die Roten started the game in London on a front foot, dominating the home side and creating chances consistently.

Bayern were not rewarded in the first half, but they were finally rewarded in the second half. They went for the kill after scoring the first goal, ending the game with a healthy three-goal lead in the tie. Flick had outwitted Frank Lampard in a big European game.

The second leg of the tie has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the first leg win against Chelsea effectively sealed the permanent job for Flick. Bayern handed him a new two-year deal a fortnight ago. Bayern also sounded a warning to all European rivals that they meant business in Champions League this season.
