Tottenham Hotspurs 2-7 Bayern Munich

Niko Kovac had a tough start to the campaign as Die Roten had suffered a 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in DFL Supercup. The defending Bundesliga champions also dropped points in the league due to their inconsistent performances.

However, the start to the Champions League was solid as they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win against Crvena Zvezda at Allianz Arena. The next game in the competition was pivotal as they travelled away to face last season’s runners-up- Tottenham Hotspurs.

After a poor outing against Liverpool last season in the Round of 16, it was necessary for Die Roten to deliver a good performance against a top European club. And boy! What a response from players as they hammered seven goals against the London based club.

Spurs started the game brilliantly, taking the lead at the home turf. Die Roten responded well by immediately scoring an equalizer. From that moment, it was all Serge Gnabry‘s show as he scored four goals against Spurs. The German team was ruthless in the final third, scoring from almost every chance they created. This game provided an ideal springboard for Bayern to do well in Europe as they were on a seven-game winning run in Europe before football was halted due to coronavirus.
