Lucas Hernandez
Bayern decided to address the defensive department last summer since a couple of players were getting old and kept on leaking goals. The German club decided to break their transfer record to sign Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid.
Hernandez arrived at the club in March as his season was abruptly ended with a serious injury. He completed his rehabilitation and made himself available for selection at the start of the season. The French international showed his class from the word go and looked destined to have a good season.
Unfortunately, injury once again became Hernandez’s nemesis. He suffered a serious ankle injury in October that kept him out for three months. The former Atletico Madrid defender also suffered one minor injury before the ankle injury. He was making a return at the right time for Die Roten as games were coming thick and fast at that point in the season.
Due to injuries to Hernandez and Niklas Sule, Die Roten went through a defensive crisis for a few months. There is no doubt about Hernandez’s quality, but his first season has been a disappointment due to injury issues. He can go on to justify the hefty transfer fee, but it has been a testing debut season for the French World Cup winner.
