Arjen Robben

After signing Ribery for left-flank, Die Roten decided to strengthen the other side of the attack in 2009. Real Madrid had already acquired Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, so Arjen Robben had become surplus to their requirements. Louis Van Gaal decided to go ahead with bringing Robben to Allianz Arena as the two clubs agreed a €25 million fee.

Robben clicked for Bayern straightaway by making big contributions in the final third. Slowly and steadily, the Dutch winger formed a deadly partnership with Ribery. The attack looked more complete and destined to make Die Roten a force in Europe.

Bayern came close to winning the CL title in Robben’s first season as they ended up runners up against Inter Milan. Robben scored a pivotal goal against Man United at Old Trafford that helped them to seal a place in the semi-finals. The Dutch winger continued to season after season, becoming one of the wide players in Europe.

Robben played an important role in 2013 treble as Robbery tormented top clubs in Europe and won the domestic title race against Dortmund. The Dutchman’s last few seasons at the club were maligned with injuries, but his overall impact at the club was massive. He decided to retire from the game after Rekordmeister released him from his contract. In ten seasons and 309 games for Die Roten, Robben managed to make 245 goal contributions- making him one of the finest transfers the club ever completed. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
