Robert Lewandowski

Bayern had already shocked Bundesliga by signing Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund in 2013. However, the club made an even bigger statement by signing Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer from their arch-rivals in 2014. Die Roten had to beat various top clubs to land Lewandowski.

By the time Lewandowski finishes his Bavarian career, he will be considered as one of the best transfers the club has completed. The Polish striker has been a goal machine for Bayern, showing a consistency that many top strikers have failed to maintain in a Bayern shirt.

Lewandowski scored 25 goals across all competitions in his first season. Since the 2014/15 season, the Polish striker has consistently scored 40 goals every season, scoring 230 goals in 275 appearances. He has been Bundesliga’s top scorer in three of the last four league campaigns. (Stats Courtesy: Transfermarkt)

The Polish striker was agitating for a move away from Bavaria in 2018, but the club stood firm, and he eventually signed a new deal. In 2019/20, Lewandowski has taken his game to the next level as he had scored 40 goals across all competitions by February. He is determined to play at the top level for at least four more seasons. With his long-term future secured in Bavaria, Lewandowski can go on to become the best foreign player to play for Die Roten.
