Robert Lewandowski

The Polish forward is poised to grab another Torjägerkanone should the season conclude amid the widespread COVID-19 situation. Robert Lewandowski currently has 25 goals to his name in the league, four more than Timo Werner, who sits in the number two position on the scoring charts. Lewandowski has been a key component since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund. His contract runs out in June 2023, so the Pole is expected to lead the line for Die Roten next season.

Lewandowski has scored 153 goals in 182 league outings for Die Roten. The Poland international has aged like a fine wine. He looks even more dangerous at the age of 31. With his current form, Lewandowski is primed to surpass Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s tally of 162 Bundesliga goals.

Apart from his clinical finishing ability, the Pole also creates chances for his teammates. His slick movement to drop deep allows the wide forwards to make runs in behind the opposition’s defense. Bayern’s number nine disrupts the opposition’s defensive structure and creates space for others to surge forward and score. Lewandowski’s balance and strength to control the ball are tailor-made for this move.

Hansi Flick is fond of promoting young talent. Joshua Zirkzee and Jann-Fiete Arp are potentially the future stars for leading Bayern’s attack. Zirkzee showcased his talent in Lewandowski’s absence in Bayern’s last few games. However, they can expect to operate as Lewandowski’s apprentices until their time comes.

There could be few changes to the lineup due to coronavirus pandemic, but Die Roten are financially in a strong position to pull off the signings of Havertz and Sane, so this is likely to be the starting XI that may start in the first game of the 2020/21 season.

To conclude, Bayern Munich looks certain to rise to power again. If Hansi Flick is given an extension as the head coach, there is no limit to what Bayern can achieve with this squad at his disposal. This team is likely to herald the beginning of a new era for FC Bayern Munich.
