How will Bayern Munich line up in the 2020/21 season?

Serge Gnabry

Voted as Bayern’s Player of the Year for 2018/19, Serge Gnabry deserves a confirmed spot in next season’s starting eleven. A highly coveted forward from his early days, Gnabry embodies a complete attacker.

At first, Gnabry possesses the speed and endurance to drop deep. He helps in building the attack from the back. This is supplemented by his speed and the technique to beat his opponent in a one-on-one situation. Serge Gnabry is, thereby, a shrewd attacking threat. His movement often allows him to operate as a second striker.

In attack, the 24-year old is fatal for the opponents. Gnabry is bipedal, which effectively allows him to operate from either flank. He can deliver the final blow with a slick feint and scorching shots in the attacking third. Gnabry has enhanced his touch under Hansi Flick and may well be on his path to becoming a Bayern legend.

As per the statistics from Understat.com, Gnabry has a non-penalty xG tally of 8.67 since Flick became the head coach. This places him in the number two spot behind Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga this season. During the same time frame, Gnabry has clocked an expected assists tally of 6.95. Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane’s impending move to Bayern Munich has been the most followed transfer story of the current season. A move that was almost sealed last summer. Sane’s current campaign was consumed by his knee injury in Manchester City’s curtain-raiser tie against Liverpool. Nonetheless, Sane should be Bayern’s number one transfer target, and a move should go through in the summer of 2020. As per recent reports, Bayern wants to propose a tempting swap-offer to City that will facilitate Sane’s arrival.

Sane’s arrival should see Kingsley Coman making his way to the bench. Coman remains an important asset for Bayern, albeit Sane is expected to have a slight edge over the French winger. Coman’s stats represent a slightly better dribbling ability over Sane. However, the German winger overpowers Coman in the attacking department. Sane is much more effective in the final third than the French winger. Comparing the statistics from the last two seasons, Sane racked up a goal and assist tally of 0.94 per 90 minutes against Coman’s score of 0.57. (Stats courtesy: Understat.com)

Furthermore, having both the players would be an added benefit. Flick will have two brilliant young talents at his disposal. Coman should be prepared to sacrifice as Sane is likely to get more minutes on the pitch.
