Clear style of play

Guardiola always received backing from Bayern, despite struggling to win the Champions League during his three-year tenure, due to the implementation of an attractive style of play. If the Spaniard had not decided to leave the club, then surely Die Roten would have stuck with him.

Kovac used a pragmatic approach, and it worked to a great effect for him during the first season. After all, no fixed style of football guarantees silverware. However, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge always maintained that Die Roten need to play an attractive style of football.

Hansi Flick has not tried to emulate Guardiola’s style of football, but he has brought back the excitement in Die Roten’s way of playing football. Intense pressing from midfield and attack has helped Bayern to stamp their authority in the game from the word go. The defense has looked more solid, so there is no compromise in one part of the pitch to excel in the other sector.

Bayern are scoring freely against tougher opponents. Moreover, they don’t heavily rely on individual brilliance as most goals have been a result of strict patterns of play in the final third. Instilling these ideas in such a short period makes Flick’s job even more impressive. Bringing back some sort of swagger in Die Roten’s style of play has done half the job for Flick to get the permanent gig in summer.
