Negative impact on summer transfer plans

Bayern is generally known for using an efficient approach to summer transfers. However, last year it was a scattergun approach from the club as they tried to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City, but ended up scrambling loan deals for Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic.

The club would surely like to avoid a similar scenario in summer, but the coronavirus outbreak may once again affect their transfer plans. The current campaign may take the majority of May and June to complete the rest of the league and cup games. It will go beyond that if leagues don’t resume functioning at the start of April.

The loan deals of Coutinho and Perisic are likely to expire at the end of June, so they will be contractually bound to not play for Die Roten if the league goes beyond that date. This will be a sticky situation for all clubs across Europe, halting their summer transfer plans.

It will leave Bayern very less time to conclude complicated deals for players such as Sane and Kai Havertz. Apart from influencing the current campaign, there could be a drastic effect on how Bayern’s team shapes up for next season.
