Coutinho builds on the last two performances

The last three games across all competitions have seen some positive signs on the pitch. However, Philippe Coutinho’s resurgence is the biggest of all. The Brazilian forward got a brace against Hoffenheim last weekend and looked like scoring more.

Coutinho didn’t get on the scoresheet against Schalke, but his overall performance was promising. He was linking up with other forwards, and his decision making in the final third was also accurate. Coutinho also got into promising scoring positions in the box.

The Brazilian forward has only two months to convince Die Roten to sign him from Barcelona in summer. He has not been poor this season, but there are much higher expectations from a player that is going to cost more than €100 million.

Flick is set to stick with the same front four as Coman is unlikely to be fit to start the game, and Ivan Perisic is still recovering from an injury. Coutinho will get some sort of continuity in terms of playing time to achieve consistency in his performances. The Brazilian has been good for Die Roten in patches, so Sunday is an important game for him to cement a place in starting XI.
