Five Bayern Munich players improved under Hansi Flick
Serge Gnabry
Bayern Munich heavily relied on Robert Lewandowski for goals in the first half of the season. The Polish forward was bailing out his team in almost every game. During the winter break, Flick had to make sure that the end product of other forwards improves significantly in the second half of the season.
Serge Gnabry is the other forward who also has the responsibility of contributing to goals in this team. However, the German winger was inconsistent in Hinrunde. His goal tally looked impressive, but it was largely inflated due to his four-goal heroics in London against Tottenham Hotspurs.
Gnabry suffered an injury setback in Ruckrunde, but he has started to develop a ruthless streak under Flick over the past four weeks. The German winger is scoring goals for fun now, which also included the impressive brace against Chelsea last week.
It looks like Flick has worked on Gnabry’s positioning in the final third. The German winger gets into promising positions consistently throughout the game. He is not drifting in and out of the game, more focused on leading the press from the front. These are some subtle changes made by Flick, but they are helping in getting the best out of Gnabry.
