Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies has been the surprise package of this season. Davies was considered as a bright prospect, but even Bayern Munich wouldn’t have expected him to start delivering goods so early into his career at the club. From being an option in the squad, Davies has gone on to become undroppable from the starting eleven in the last four months. His performances are reportedly going to be rewarded by a contract extension from the club.

Davies had a slow start to the season as he didn’t start many games under Niko Kovac. The Croatian decided to use him as a left-back in his final couple of games at the club due to an injury crisis in the defensive department. Davies didn’t do anything wrong in those games, but he had to do much better to cement his spot in the team.

Flick decided to stick with the experiment of playing Davies in back four. Cut back to four months, Davies is the most talked-about youngster, across Europe. The 19-year-old forward has polished the defensive and offensive aspects of his game under Flick. The German manager’s trust in him has worked wonders, as Davies has become a pivotal part of the setup, despite not playing in his favoured position.

Running up and down on the left flank, making vital interceptions in the box, and ghosting past players to set up goals- all these have been vital aspects of Davies’ game. Flick’s offensive style allows Davies to play on the front foot. The Canadian’s gradual improvement also shows that Flick knows a thing about improving promising young prospects.
