Bayern Munich stroll past hosts FC Koln by a score of 4-1 on Matchday 22 in the Bundesliga.

After coming off of an exhilarating game last week against RB Leipzig that yielded zero goals, Bayern Munich returned to winning ways by thrashing FC Koln at the Rhein Energie Stadion. Bayern’s overall plan was clear – score early, and then manage the game until the end. And that is exactly what they did, scoring three goals within the first fifteen minutes of the match. After those three goals, the match’s intensity dropped as Bayern tried to see out the match.

The second half included an inspired response by the hosts to at least provide hope for the fans, but Bayern’s Serge Gnabry squashed that hope by scoring his second to make it 4-0. Koln did pull a goal back to make it 4-1, but by that point, Bayern were in cruise control and were able to come away with an easy victory.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring in the third minute, assisted by Thomas MullerKingsley Coman quickly added to the scoreline in the fifth minute, which was also created by Muller. Serge Gnabry scored his first in the 12th minute off of a corner from Joshua Kimmich. Koln put a goal on the board through striker Mark Uth in the 70th minute.

This win puts Bayern back on top of the Bundesliga, leading RB Leipzig by a point. It also helps them in extending their undefeated start to 2020. Bayern only has four days off before their next match against bottom-placed Paderborn on Friday. However, the early match next weekend allows them three days rest before the big Champions League showdown against Chelsea. Here are four takeaways from the match this week.
