Good Selection headache for Flick

It was a solid performance from every Bayern player on Saturday, including the players that came off the bench. Flick will soon have a good selection headache when all players will be fit and available.

In defense, Alphonso Davies is getting better in the left-back role, while David Alaba looks solid in central defense. Alvaro Odriozola will soon make his debut for Bayern, so Jerome Boateng is likely to sit out of the lineup. With Lucas Hernandez close to returning, Flick will have great defensive options.

The midfield is stacked with some world-class talent. Flick is yet to find a way that will keep all midfielders happy. He has struck the right balance in midfield. Now, he just needs to get his rotation right, so that all midfielders get a fair amount of playing time.

Compared to defense and midfield, the attacking department lack variety in options. Kingsley Coman is currently nursing an injury and Gnabry has just returned from an achilles injury, so Flick has to stick with the same players in the front three. This could change if Die Roten adds a forward to their squad in the next five days.

Healthy competition for places will make Flick’s job difficult in a good sense. In the last two league games, players have shown that they are desperate to keep their place in the starting lineup. It will be interesting to see how Flick copes with this challenge of management in a month’s time when he will have a much bigger squad.
