Bayern Munich is reportedly looking at Douglas Costa as a possible solution to their attacking problems.

The first big transfer of the winter window arrived at Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Alvaro Odriozola completed a loan move to Bavaria earlier today. The club did complete the signing of Alexander Nubel at the start of January, but he is signing for next season.

Odiozola will improve Hansi Flick’s defensive options till the end of the season. The Spaniard will play in the right-back position, allowing Joshua Kimmich and Benjamin Pavard to play in midfield and central defense, respectively.

Apart from a right-back, Flick also insisted that Bayern need to strengthen the attack by signing a winger. Flick’s comments came at the time when Serge Gnabry was nursing an achillies injury, and Kingsley Coman was recovering from a knee injury. Die Roten has been linked numerous forwards in the past 12 months. The latest German report suggests that they could a former player to fill this role for the time being.

According to SportBild, Bayern Munich could make a move for Douglas Costa. This report insists that Flick held a meeting with the leadership group of the squad in Doha and they suggested a temporary move for Costa.

More from Bayern Strikes

Costa has previously played for Bayern for a couple of seasons from 2015 till 2017. The Brazilian was brought to Bayern by Pep Guardiola from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2015. He thrived under Pep Guardiola, but his form plummetted under Carlo Ancelotti. Bayern loaned him out to Juventus and the Italian club eventually decided to sign him permanently in 2018.

Die Roten will make a mistake by making a move for Costa before the deadline this day. This stance is not based on Costa’s talent as he is a fantastic winger. It is more based on short term thinking shown from the club. They should rely on youth forwards till summer rather than going for a 29-year-old winger that has struggled with injuries this term.

Costa is also unlikely to move back to Bayern, considering his previous struggles in Germany. A loan doesn’t make sense for both clubs and player. He was a key player for Juventus last season. The Italian club will want him in the squad ahead of big matches in the second half of the season.

Bayern reportedly wants to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City in summer. The German winger ticks all the boxes for Die Roten, so they should persist with this deal at the end of the season. A move for an experienced player like Costa doesn’t make sense right now when you already have Ivan Perisic on the books.
