Team News

Hansi Flick has been vocal about the need of adding players to the squad. The current squad is short on numbers and injuries have further decreased the first team options for the German manager.

There was some positive news on the injury front this week as Serge Gnabry started training after being out for a week due to achilles injury. The German forward trained with the first team on Thursday and will be present in the matchday squad. It is unlikely he will start the game for Die Roten.

Robert Lewandowski is also fit to start against Hertha. The Polish striker went under the knife to sort a groin issue after the game against Wolfsburg in Decemeber. He didn’t travel with the team to Doha camp as he opted to complete the recovery process at Saebner Strasse. Meanwhile, Javi Martinez still needs three more weeks to recover from hamstring injury that he suffered against Wolfsburg.

Lucas Hernandez and Jann-Fiete Arp have also recovered from their respective injuries, but the game on Sunday may be too soon for both of them to make a return. Joshua Kimmich will sit out of this game due to suspension, while Niklas Sule continues his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury.
