Five defenders Bayern Munich should target in January
Alessio Romagnoli
Bayern Munich can also sort their defensive issue by signing a center-back to replace Jerome Boateng, and move Benjamin Pavard permanently to right-back position. AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli can be the ideal candidate to replace Boateng in the current Bayern squad.
The Italian defender has been one of the few standout players for Milan in the past couple of seasons. His performances at the back have attracted interested from top clubs across Europe. He has been a leader for Milan, delivering some top-class defensive performances.
Romagnoli’s defending style is very similar to that of Mats Hummels. His passing is impeccable, making him an ideal player for a team that focuses on playing it out from the back. While defending, his clever positioning helps him to deal with forwards. He will bring the calming presence at the back, and can potentially form a very solid partnership with Lucas Hernandez.
Milan recently signed Simon Kjaer, which does not necessarily mean that they will be open to selling Romagnoli. However, Bayern should try to include Boateng in any deal possible, and bring Romagnoli to Bavaria. With his arrival, Die Roten’s defensive overhaul will be complete, which will have young defenders and an experienced leader in Romagnoli.
