Jerome Boateng

Bayern and Jerome Boateng have been trying to part ways for the last two summers in a row. He tried to force a move to Paris Siant-Germain in 2018, but two clubs couldn’t reach an agreement over the transfer fee. Last summer, there were no concrete offers for him till Juventus showed late interest in him.

Boateng has been way behind in the pecking order at Bayern. He was unlikely to get regular game time due to the arrival of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez in summer. His lack of pace has been exploited by opponents with ease whenever he has played for the German champions this season.

It is better for all parties that Boateng soon finds a new club. The German defender’s entourage has reportedly held talks with Hasan Salihamidzic about a move away from Bavaria in January. His departure will help Die Roten to complete their defensive overhaul by signing a young defender to replace him.

In such a scenario, Bayern should not stand in the way of Boateng. Since Boateng’s contract at Bayern is set to expire in 2021, this winter transfer is likely to be the last opportunity for Die Roten to get a sizeable transfer fee for him.
