Winger

The German champions were desperate to sign a marquee and talented attacking player last summer due to departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. They ended up with one-year loan deals for Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic.

Both the new arrivals have not hit the ground running, so there are doubts about their long term futures in Bavaria. Moreover, Coutinho is not exactly a traditional winger, and Perisic will turn 31 in February.

Bayern wanted to sign Leroy Sane in summer. The German winger is interested in moving to Bavaria, so a transfer looks inevitable. He is currently recovering from a knee injury that kept him out for the past five months. The former Schalke forward is expected to be back by the end of February. He is reportedly eager to complete a move to Bayern in the winter transfer window and has already rejected contract offers from Manchester City.

All these conditions could entice Die Roten in opening talks with Man City in January. Moreover, the inconsistent performances from Kingsley Coman, Coutinho, and Perisic makes the addition of a winger necessity for Bayern. A top-class forward such as Sane can help Bayern to challenge for the Champions League.
