Robert Lewandowski signs new contract
Bayern Munich made a huge mistake in 2014 by allowing Toni Kroos to join Real Madrid. The German champions were not going to make the same error when Robert Lewandowski was agitating for a move away from the club in 2018.
The Polish striker ended up staying at the club and enjoyed a stellar season. He finished the campaign with 40 goals across all competitions. Bayern chiefs also started mending the relationship with the player by publicly protecting him from criticism from ex-players.
Lewandowski started changing his tune and insisted that he is feeling more settled in Bavaria. Bayern started negotiating a new deal with their prolific goalscorer. The talks eventually concluded at the start of the 2019/20 season, and Bayern announced the contract renewal of Lewandowski.
This contract renewal meant that Lewandowski would see out the prime years of his career at Bayern. The Bavarian faithful was happy with the firm stance shown by Bayern in stopping their star player from joining a European rival. Lewandowski is on track to have the best season of his career and this contract renewal has surely helped in ending all speculation.
