Bayern Munich: Team of the Decade
Right-back— Philipp Lahm
The back four will be completed by none other than Philipp Lahm. Joshua Kimmich was also a strong contender for this position, but Lahm’s achievements and consistency wins the race. Lahm is one of the best full-backs the game has ever seen.
After coming through the youth teams at Bayern, Lahm went on to captain Bayern Munich and Germany for a long time. He made 517 appearances for Bayern over 14 years. The German’s small physical stature hardly affected his defensive game.
He was a ferocious competitor on the pitch but also showed a great deal of in clutch situations. The German World Cup winner was composed while going forward as he consistently found forwards in the box. He was also astute defensively and rarely lost his cool on the pitch.
Lahm was a perfect leader. He set the bar by his consistent performances. Hence, he will also lead the team of the decade. The German full-back briefly played in the midfield under Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager insisted that Lahm was the most clever player he has coached. Lahm’s sudden retirement in 2017 was a shock to everyone as he still had few years left in him. Despite his early retirement, Lahm will be fondly remembered as one of the best defenders to play for Bayern.
