Bayern Munich: Team of the Decade
Goalkeeper— Manuel Neuer
There are very few options in the goalkeeping department and Manuel Neuer wins the race to be in this team by a canter. Since joining Bayern from FC Schalke in 2011, Neuer has gone on to become the best goalkeeper in the world.
Standing tall in front of the goal, Neuer creates doubts in the mind of top strikers’ minds when they come one vs one against him. His shot-stopping skills have bailed Bayern throughout this decade, making mindboggling saves in big games.
Neuer also excelled under Pep Guardiola by becoming an efficient sweeper keeper. His distribution is best in the world and at the age of 33, you can count goalkeepers on one hand that are at the moment on par with him. Considering he has been one of the best goalkeepers Germany has seen, it is a no brainer for him to have a place in the team of the decade.
Apart from numerous team honours, Neuer also won numerous individual awards in this decade. The German goalkeeper has featured thrice in the UEFA and FIFA team of the year. He suffered injury problems in the past three seasons, but this year he has shown that he is back to his best. The German international remains hungry to achieve success with club and country as he also has the additional responsibility of captaining both sides.
