Bayern Munich defender Rafinha holds talks with Flamengo
Bayern Munich defender Rafinha has reportedly held talks with Flamengo, as numerous Brazilian clubs circle around the veteran full-back.
The German champions are gearing up for multiple departures at the end of the season. Rafinha recently announced that he is set to end his cycle at Bayern Munich in summer. The Brazilian full-back has only six months left on his contract, and the Bavarians have not shown any signs of offering him a new deal.
Rafinha also said that he is yet to receive any offers, but a return to Brazil remains a possibility for him. According to Sky Sport, Brazilian club Flamengo has shown concrete interest in the full-back.
The report claims the club has already held talks with the player’s agent as they outline the details of a potential contract. This report also suggests that both Internacional and Sao Paolo have shown interest in signing the 33-year-old defender.

The Brazilian has been a fine squad player for Bayern Munich since his move from Genoa in 2011. His reliability in both full-back positions has made him an important player under every manager.
Rafinha has been a top professional in Munich, as he never complained about his gametime and always delivered whenever he was called upon. However, it is the right time for Bayern to end their association with Rafinha as they focus on rebuilding their aging squad.
Die Roten are looking to improve the average age of the squad by bringing in young players to replace the veterans. The defensive department of the squad is surely set to undergo an overhaul, as Bayern has conceded too many goals this season. Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng are on a steady decline, and their lack of pace is being exploited by teams weekly.
Joshua Kimmich and David Alaba are likely to be the first choice full-backs at the club next season, which is the main reason the Bavarians are turning their eyes to more versatile defenders in the transfer market. They have been heavily linked with France internationals Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. Each of the pair can play in the heart of defense or slot in as a full-back.
The futures of both Arjen Robben and Rafinha are likely to be made more clear within the coming months. They can now sign a pre-contract with any interested clubs since they are in the final half-year of their Bayern contracts. Rafinha is likely to go back to his home country, while Robben has linked with numerous European clubs. These two players still have much quality and can still play a big role for a good club.
