Bayern Munich manager admits lack of balance in the team

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti bemoans about lack of balance in team against Paris Saint Germain.

The Bavarians suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint Germain in the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. Bayern Munich were completely outclassed by the home side as they suffered their second defeat in all competitions this season.

Bayern are probably going to finish second in their Champions League group for the second year in succession. While talking to press after the game (h/t Goal) Carlo Ancelotti said that his team lacked balance on the pitch after quickly going behind in the second minute of the game.

“We didn’t have the power to avoid their counter. In the first half, we had good control of the game, good possession, some chances.”

“We were not dangerous enough and we didn’t have balance. They played the whole game looking for the counter-attacks and we couldn’t control that.”

The Italian made a weird team selection for the biggest game of the season till now. Ancelotti left Mats Hummels, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery on the bench for such a crucial game. However the Italian defended his team selection. He said that the lineup was good enough to get the job done against the Ligue 1 side.

Ancelotti has been under a lot of criticism for Bayern’s early season form. The German Champions have looked inconsistent and unconvincing in most of their games this season. Bayern sit third in Bundesliga, three points behind fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund.

There has been a lot of talk about the future of Ancelotti at Bayern. This performance will further fuel the talk about his future as Julian Nagelsmann is tipped by many to takeover for the Bavarians next season. Ancelotti will be expecting a strong reply from his players when they face Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
