Bayern Munich sweep aside Werder Bremen with a 2-0 victory — player grades
Bayern Munich make it two wins out of two in this Bundesliga campaign with a solid 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen.
Manager Grade
Carlo Ancelotti — B
Ancelotti’s initial selection did not do much for him, but he mended that well with his second-half subs and formation change. Perhaps the excellent performances from Coman and Muller will help Carlo break away from his over-reliance on Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Similarly, the 4-4-2 has worked wonders for Ancelotti and co. in recent weeks. Maybe it’s time to give the formation an official go.
Player Grades
GK, Manuel Neuer — C+
The Bayern and Germany number one could not have asked for a more relaxing return to his post between the sticks, as he did not have to make a single save.
DEF, David Alaba — C+
The Austrian full-back is slowly breaking out of his ’16-17 slump, and today’s match was another step in the right direction. He has the tendency to get caught too far up the pitch, and could have been punished for that against a pacier team. While he still misplaced too many crosses, there were several good ones in there to overshadow the rest.
DEF, Mats Hummels — A
Nothing but calm and collected in defense, Mats Hummels showed today why he is the best center-back in Germany. Excellently shut down the seldom Werder Bremen attacks.
DEF, Niklas Süle — B
Slightly overshadowed by his central defensive partner, Hummels, Süle was nevertheless quite good for yet another match. His goal-line clearance in the 28th minute saved Bayern Munich from going down a goal and chasing a match.
DEF, Joshua Kimmich — B-
Despite a few errant crosses, Kimmich gave a very promising performance at right-back. The German ran tirelessly up and down the right side and enjoyed a team-high 94.9% passing accuracy.
MID, Arturo Vidal — B+
Bayern’s “Warrior” toiled tirelessly, tracking back to do his defensive duties and surging forward to join the attack. Played an excellent long-ball to set up Coman before Lewandowski’s opener. A classic match from the Chilean.
MID, Corentin Tolisso — B-
The French international was always going to have a hard time following up last weekend’s wonderful performance. Coco still put in a fantastic shift in central midfield and can consider himself unlucky to have hit the post for a second week in a row.
MID, Franck Ribery — C
Not exactly the best game by the Frenchman’s standards. His final ball often left a little to be desired and he was too easily dispossed on the day.
MID, Thiago — C+
Bayern’s midfield maestro had an unexpectedly quiet match on his return to the Bayern first-team. He was by no means poor, but more was expected from him given his lofty standards.
MID, Arjen Robben — C
Like his counterpart on the left-wing, Robben’s game was not quite up to scratch on the day. Tested the keeper early, but should have done better with an open header as the first-half came to an end.
FWD, Robert Lewandowski — A
Despite a quiet first-half, the Pole stepped up in the second to do what he does best: score goals. His positioning and cheeky finish on the first one were impressive, but his technique and athleticism on the second were next level. He proved again today why he is simply the best number nine in the world.

Subs
MID, Kingsley Coman — A
Immediately made an impact on the match. His speed and trickery was simply too much for the Werder Bremen defense to handle. His touch, dribbling and cross to set up Lewandowski’s opener were all simply brilliant.
FWD, Thomas Muller — B
Like Coman, made an instant impact upon his entrance. The raumdeuter opened up space in the final third and set up Lewandowski for his second.
MID, Sebastian Rudy — N/A
Rudy’s cameo was not enough to warrant a grade.
