Former Bayern Munich captain Stefan Effenberg recently shared his thoughts on Carlo Ancelotti, PSG in the Champions League and more.

Steffan Effenberg is one of the greatest midfielders to ever play for Bayern Munich. The German international was a legend for his home nation and one of Bayern’s most important players in his time at the club.

Recently, the German legend commented on the current state of his former club. Speaking with T-Online, Effenberg discussed things such as Carlo Ancelotti, Neymar’s transfer to PSG and Bayern’s most important player.

When prompted about Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti, Effenberg said he believes the Italian may be forced out of Munich much sooner than he plans. If Bayern has a worst season than their last, he explained, the club could opt to part ways with Mr. Ancelotti.

He also addressed his thoughts on Bayern’s chances in this season’s Champions League.

"“It will not be easy for Bayern — quite the contrary. You see how other teams are improving when €222 million is invested in Neymar.“Paris are certainly now among Champions League favorites. They are hungry and have other options.”"

He further explained that if Bayern are not willing to increase their transfer budget then he believes the Bavarians will be left in the dust of other European clubs.

PSG recently broke the all-time transfer record with their signature of Brazilian Neymar. Although Bayern have not spent quite that much money, they too have had a busy summer. They brought in James Rodriguez from Spanish giants Real Madrid and broke their own transfer record to sign Coco Tolisso.

The club is doing just fine in the transfer market, and has no reason to change their spending structure. Although Effenberg was a bit off base with his quotes regarding Bayern falling behind in Europe, he did share some thoughts that made more sense.

When asked whether or not he thought Bayern should sell Thomas Muller to make room for the new signings, his response was clear.

"“No, why? [Muller] is the face of Bayern Munich after the departures of Schweinsteiger and Lahm.”"

At least Effenberg is talking sense about one thing. Muller is going nowhere and is certainly the face of Bayern at this point in time. He’s the only Bavarian left in the club and an important leader for the squad.

Next: Rotation will be key for Bayern Munich this season

Muller’s pre-season form has been terrific, a wonderful turnaround from last season. If the Raumdeuter keeps it up, he could be one of the club’s most important players this season.
