1) Joshua Kimmich was excellent at right-back.

Joshua Kimmich was absent for much of Bayern Munich’s pre-season. The German international was given an extended holiday after helping lead Die Mannschaft to Confederations Cup glory.

He was one of his nation’s best performers at the tournament, where he primarily featured as a right wing-back. Kimmich played every minute for Germany and registered two assists throughout the tournament.

His fantastic form with the national team has seemingly carried over to his club as well. The Kid was nothing short of wonderful in his right-back debut for the Bavarians.

A constant threat down the right flank, Kimmich was directly involved in both Bayern Munich goals.

The first came after the German made an excellent run in behind the Dortmund defense and placed a low cross right at the feet of Robert Lewandowski. The pole simply tapped home and Bayern drew level with Dortmund.

Then, it was Kimmich’s persistence and eventual shot that caused the own-goal for Die Roten’s second. He can be forgiven for his poorly placed penalty since his team still emerged victors.

Joshua Kimmich’s great display is a fantastic sign for Bayern Munich. Club legend and former right-back Philipp Lahm retired at the end of last season, leaving a massive hole in the Bayern backline. Although nobody can ever truly replace the previous captain, Bayern Munich have the next best player in young Joshua Kimmich.
