Number One: RB Leipzig 4-5 Bayern Munich (Bundesliga)

What. A. Game. Sure, it had no effect on whether or not Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, but don’t say it meant nothing. Just like they did in December, Bayern wanted to prove a point. They wanted to prove that they were in fact the undisputed best in Germany.

After going down early, Bayern won a penalty which Lewandowski buried in the back of the net (he’s pretty good at that if you couldn’t tell). However, Leipzig got both their second and third before Bayern knew what to do.

Shortly thereafter Thiago headed home from extremely close range, but that goal too would soon be cancelled out by an excellent finish from Timo Werner. At 4-2 it seemed that the game was all but over and that Bayern would be returning to Munich with their tail between their legs.

That was until the 84th minute at least, when Robert Lewandowski headed home a rebound from an Arjen Robben shot. Then, just as extra time began, David Alaba blasted a free-kick into the net, bringing Die Roten level with the hosts. Shortly after, Arjen Robben used his veteran wits and skill to take a pass from Thomas Muller all the way down the right-flank before cutting inside and coolly chipping the goalkeeper. It was a finale for the ages.

While Bayern Munich’s overall game may not have been quite as good as they would have wished, they fought hard to get the result and that’s what matters. The nine-goal thriller turned out to be the most entertaining game of the entire Bundesliga season.
