Number Two: Bayern Munich 5-1 Arsenal (Champions League round of 16 game 1)

In what seemed almost to be inevitable, Bayern Munich were matched up against Arsenal yet again in this past season’s Champions League round of 16. The London side finished first in their group, but still could not avoid drawing Bayern Munich who finished second to Atletico Madrid in the group stages.

The first leg of the match was in Munich at the Allianz Arena and boy was it one for the ages. As Arsenal traveled to Germany, there were some who believed the London side could possibly pull an upset against the German giants. Those beliefs were quickly squashed, however, as Bayern completely rinsed through the Arsenal side.

Once again, Thiago was hands down the man of the match as he bossed the midfield both offensively and defensively. His two goals were complemented by another assist, but even those statistics don’t show how utterly brilliant the Spanish maestro was during the match.

Fittingly enough, the one Arsenal player who scored against Bayern Munich? Alexis Sanchez. Perhaps it was merely his audition to play in Munich next season.
