Number Five: Bayern Munich 6-0 Werder Bremen (Bundesliga)

Bayern Munich kicked off their Bundesliga campaign in style with a commanding win over Werder Bremen, a middle-of-the-park Bundesliga side.

Many fans had high expectations for Carlo Ancelotti in his Bundesliga debut, and he did not disappoint. Fielding a strong, veteran side, Ancelotti coached his squad to an impressive blowout which made a statement for the rest of Germany to see.

Xabi Alonso opened the scoring with a wonderful strike from outside the box–Bayern’s first goal of the domestic season. Just minutes later Lewandowski doubled the lead following a fantastic pass from Franck Ribery.

Just after the second-half kicked off, Muller got his first of three assists with a cross to Lewandowski who fired home his second goal in what would soon become a hat trick.

Lahm and Ribery added Bayern’s fourth and fifth goals not long after, and Lewandowski wrapped the game up with a expertly finished penalty.

This game was not particularly important to the outcome of the season. But it gave Germany a small taste of what they could expect from Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern Munich, who made a massive statement with the win.
