Bayern Munich sealed the Bundesliga title after thumping six past Wolfsburg on Saturday.

The Bavarians needed two wins before this gameweek to confirm their title. However RB Leipzig dropped further two points on Saturday against Ingolstadt which changed the scenario. Bayern Munich just need to win this game to seal the title courtesy of Leipzig’s result.

Carlo Ancelotti sealed his first league title in Germany and Bayern win the record fifth consecutive league title. The Bavarians won the title in some style as they hammered Wolfsburg at Volkswagen Arena. They also broke the streak of five winless games.

Mats Hummels and David Alaba passed late fitness tests and featured in the starting eleven while Jerome Boateng missed out completely due to minor issue. The Italian rotated his team as the likes of Arturo Vidal and Xabi Alonso were not there in the starting eleven.

The visitors fully motivated after seeing the other result and started the game on front foot. Bayern straight away started creating chances and almost got a goal at the sixth minute. Robert Lewandowski dribbled past a couple of players and maintained his balance to square the ball for Thomas Muller. However Wolfsburg reacted quickly and cleared the ball before it reached Muller who was standing in front of the goal.

Against the run of play, Wolfsburg got a brilliant chance to get the lead. A lovely through ball from midfield was able to set up Mario Gomez who got the better of the charging Sven Ulreich. However he was not able to deliver the ball in the box where there was no goalkeeper as Ulreich was caught out of position.

Bayern came close again with a couple of good half chances. They finally got the lead at 16th minute through a brilliantly executed freekick from David Alaba. Former Bayern Munich man Luiz Gustavo brought down Muller on the edge of the box and then Alaba curled the ball in to top corner. It was the second goal from setpiece for Alaba in Bundesliga this season.

The Bavarians cntinued to pepper shots at the goal in order to increase the lead. Wolfsburg also had couple of chances but failed to capitalise on them. They were punished for those misses when Lewandowski got the second goal at 36th minute. Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller linked up very well on the left flank. The German then squared the ball for unmarked Lewandowski, who curled it past Koen Casteels with ease.

Coman was in scintillating form after signing for the Bavarians permanently. He  got past his man with ease on the left flank and squared the ball for Lewandowski. The Pole slotted the ball in the net giving Bayern a three goal lead going into the break.

Bayern continued to dominate after resuming after half. However Wolfsburg got the best chance after the half after a lovely delivery from Daniel Didavi was not converted by Riechedly Bazoer. Alaba came close to score his second of the game when he rattled the post with a powerful strike. Coman kept on beating his man and created chances, but was not able to find the finish to his moves.

The Bavarians finally got the fourth goal which was a trademark goal from Arjen Robben. The Dutchman was fed by Muller on the right hand side. He was able to cut inside and then powered a shot from outside the box to beat Casteels. Wolfsbirg’s misery was compounded further when Gustavo was sent off at 72nd minute.

Bayern took advantage of an extra man quickly as they found the net for the fifth time. Joshua Kimmich took a quick freekick and released Lewandowski. The Pole rounded off the goalkeeper and struck the woodwork. Muller was at the right place at the right time as he scored from the rebound.

Kimmich capped off a wonderful display in midfield with a goal late in the game. He started the move with a lovely ball over the top for Robben. The Dutchman then got till the byline and then delivered a cross in the box. Kimmich controlled the ball and neatly slotted it past the goalkeeper.

Ancelotti’s men endured a difficult two weeks as they were knocked out of Champions League and DFB Pokal cup. However a Bundesliga title will bring some solace to the Italian in a season which was disappointing considering the standards Bayern Munich have every year.
