After suffering through the past few weeks with injuries to several key players, Bayern Munich are now hopeful of having a fit squad for the second leg of their Champions League tie at Real Madrid.

Following a blistering start to the new year, Bayern Munich’s form has dipped slightly in recent weeks. While fitness issues cannot be entirely to blame for poor performances from the team, they have certainly plagued the Bayern Munich squad.

Following Bayern Munich’s 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, Mats Hummels injured his right ankle and was forced to miss the home match against Real Madrid.

Similarly, prolific striker Robert Lewandsowski sustained a shoulder injury against Dortmund, and he too was forced to miss the Real match.

Both player’s presence was certainly felt, as Bayern fell 2-1 to a Real Madrid side they perhaps could have beaten with their most prolific scorer and a fit Mats Hummels.

If injuries to those key players were not bad enough, Jerome Boateng too has picked up an injury since last Wednesday. He missed this past weekend’s match against Bayer Leverkusen and is questionable for the Champions League clash at the Bernabeu. With both Hummels and Boateng injured, Bayern would be left with no natural central defenders, as Javi Martinez received a red card last time out and is suspended from the match.

A Light at the End of the Tunnel

Despite these injuries, it now seems likely that all three stars will be ready to go on Tuesday. Bayern Munich’s own Twitter page suggested that their Polish striker is fit and ready for Madrid:

Per ESPNFC, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the three will be ready to play come Tuesday evening.

"“There will be a test tonight,“Everything went well yesterday in training, also with Boateng. Robert was even training with the team. We have to wait. At the end of the day, we’re not so pessimistic.”He continued, “Bayern Munich is a little notoriously famous for going into such games with extraordinary will.”“We’ll throw everything into it. Whether it’s enough in the end, I’ve no idea. I hope, it would be great of course, if the team could turn it around.”"

Being down 2-1 to Real Madrid after the home leg would leave many teams doubting their chances of advancing to the next round. However, that is not the case for Bayern Munich.

If Boateng, Hummels, and Lewandowski are all prepared for the match, then Bayern Munich should once again be considered favorites. Although the match will be tough, the Bavarians certainly have what it takes to turn this tie around and walk out of the Bernabeu with an all-important win.
