Bayern Munich’s veteran attacking force leads the club to a big win at home against rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Manager Grade

A. Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti opted to field an extremely strong starting xi ahead of the midweek clash against Real Madrid. The Bayern Munich veterans performed excellently to give the squad a big confidence boost before hosting the Madrid side on Wednesday.. Manager. Bayern Munich. CARLO ANCELOTTI

Player Grades

GK. Bayern Munich. SVEN ULREICH. B. Deputizing for Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich could do nothing to save Raphael Guerreiro’s wonder-strike. Although he did well when called upon, don’t expect to see Ulreich on the team sheet again anytime soon (bar another injury to Neuer).

DAVID ALABA. B. Perhaps slightly overshadowed by Lahm’s classic performance on the opposite flank, Alaba was nevertheless excellent on the day. It will be interesting to see whether or not he gets the nod over Juan Bernat this upcoming Wednesday.. LB. Bayern Munich

B+. The Spanish international gave a typically solid performance, ever present in the back to make the right tackle or clearance. With Hummels a guaranteed starter against Real, it will be interesting to see whether it is Javi Martinez or Jerome Boateng who joins him in the back line.. CB. Bayern Munich. JAVI MARTINEZ

B+. Boateng has had no struggle getting back into the swing of things following his return from injury. The German international enjoyed a great game, with his hustle to clear a shot from Dortmund striker Aubameyang showing his prestige in central defense.. CB. Bayern Munich. BAYERN MUNICH

A. With only six Bundesliga matches now remaining in his playing career, Der Kapitan gave one of his best performances of the season. A constant menace on the right flank, his assist for Franck Ribery’s opener exemplifies Lahm’s undoubted class going forward, while his solid defensive work proved why he is one of the greatest full backs to play the beautiful game.. RB. Bayern Munich. PHILIPP LAHM (C)

Bayern Munich. XABI ALONSO. B+. The aging Spaniard controlled the flow of the game expertly from the holding midfield role. Like so many others on this Bayern squad, it will be interesting to see if Alonso will be in the starting xi against his former squad in the upcoming Champions League match up or if Carlo Ancelotti will start Thomas Muller as he has so hinted about.. CDM

B-. Bayern Munich’s “Warrior” energetically chased the ball all over the pitch, registering 9 total tackles and 109 passes (tied for a game high with Alonso). His weak clearance led to Dortmund’s lone goal, and were it not for that his grade would certainly be higher.. CDM. Bayern Munich. ARTURO VIDAL

A-. One day after his 34th birthday, Franck RIbery celebrated by scoring the game opener and assisting another. Despite his age, the Frenchman was unstoppable on the left flank before being rested in the 73rd minute.. LM. Bayern Munich. FRANCK RIBERY

B-. A surprisingly quiet match for the midfield maestro, who has been the standout player for so many of Bayern’s performances over the course of this season. Maybe Thiago was saving his energy for Real Madrid, as his class will be much needed in that match.. CAM. Bayern Munich. THIAGO

A. Combining perfectly with Philipp Lahm, Arjen Robben constantly threatened the Dortmund defense and was a bit unlucky to end the game with only a single goal despite his eight total shots.. RM. Bayern Munich. ARJEN ROBBEN

Bayern Munich. ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI. A. Bayern Munich’s deadly striker took a beating today from an undisciplined opposition, but definitely got the last laugh. After a wonderfully taken free-kick goal, the Polish striker both won and converted a penalty, before exiting the game with a knock to his shoulder. Lewandowski is one man that Die Roten cannot afford to lose, especially at such a crucial time in the season.. ST

Subs

N/A. Came on for the injured Lewandowski and played as a bit of pseudo-striker (once again showing his amazing versatility), but did not do enough to warrant a grade.. ST. Bayern Munich. JOSHUA KIMMICH (71')

N/A. The Brazilian winger will be happy to get a run out following his return from injury, but had little to do with the match already done and dusted.. LM. Bayern Munich. DOUGLAS COSTA (73')

Hummels was given a short cameo against his former club, but will no doubt have his sights set elsewhere, given the upcoming match.. CB. Bayern Munich. MATS HUMMELS (78'). N/A
