On his 250th game for the club, Thomas Muller scored a crucial goal to send Bayern Munich into the international break with their sixth consecutive win.

Despite not winning as convincingly as in recent matches, Bayern escaped Monchengladbach with all three points thanks to a goal from Thomas Muller. Despite it only being his second of this domestic campaign, the Bavarian will surely be overjoyed to score such an important goal on a significant milestone.

Manager Grade

B-. Carlo Ancelotti opted for experience over youth as the team played away to Borussia Monchengladbach. Despite the team not putting in a fantastic performance, Bayern Munich walked away with the win. Perhaps he could have rotated the squad and given some of the veterans an extended break from play as we enter the international break.. Manager. Bayern Munich. CARLO ANCELOTTI

Player Grades

GK. Bayern Munich. MANUEL NEUER. B. The best goalkeeper in the world had little to do despite a good attacking day from the home team. Did well to keep out the one shot sent his way and managed his fourth clean sheet in a row.

B. The Austrian was full of energy on the day and did his duties well on both the offensive and defensive sides of the pitch.. LB. Bayern Munich. DAVID ALABA

B-. Was hardly tested for most of the match, but held strong against the late-game Monchengladbach attacking surge. Perhaps could have scored from a header on another day.. CB. Bayern Munich. MATS HUMMELS

B+. The Spaniard was booked late and will miss the match against Augsburg on April 1. Intercepted 8 passes and had 121 touches–second most on the team. On a team that includes both Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez is proving that he may be the most reliable defender. That’s no small feat.. CB. Bayern Munich. JAVI MARTINEZ

Bayern Munich. PHILIPP LAHM. B-. With only 9 Bundesliga games remaining in his career, Lahm played traditionally well. Nothing spectacular, but a good match nonetheless.. RB

THIAGO . A. Nothing new here. Only a phenomenal chipped pass to assist the game winner and another man of the match performance. This season, however, the extraordinary has become ordinary as long as Thiago is on the pitch and nothing less was expected of the little Spaniard today. With the international break beginning, it would be criminal for Spain to leave the best midfielder in the world out of their starting XI.. CDM. Bayern Munich

XABI ALONSO. B-. Like his defensive compatriot, Alonso too was booked today and will miss the next domestic match. Played a solid match overall and made way late for young Joshua Kimmich. He will certainly enjoy the next few weeks off while the younger guys represent their national teams.. CDM. Bayern Munich

B. Toiled tirelessly in the first half and set up six key passes for his teammates, but these were to no avail. Age seems to be catching up to the Frenchman who made way for compatriot Kingsley Coman on 72 minutes.. LM. Bayern Munich. FRANCK RIBERY

Bayern Munich. THOMAS MULLER. A-. Muller’s game winner was only his second of the season, but could not have come at a better time. His precise finish pushed Bayern 13 points clear of Bundesliga runners-up RB Leipzig. Hopefully the Raumdeuter will build off his current good form whilst representing Germany over the next few weeks.. CAM

B+. The Dutch winger tested the opposition multiple times but could not finish any of his chances–one of which hit the post. Robben was visibly angry as he left the pitch in the 84′ to make room for Renato Sanches.. RM. Bayern Munich. ARJEN ROBBEN

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI. C. An uncharacteristically poor game from the Pole who was tightly marked by the home side defense. Lewandowski’s play was far too selfish, and perhaps Bayern could have managed a more convincing scoreline were it not for this.. ST. Bayern Munich

Subs

KINGSLEY COMAN. N/A. Came on late, but had little impact on the match proceedings.. LM. Bayern Munich

CDM. Bayern Munich. JOSHUA KIMMICH. N/A. Took over for Alonso with 14 minutes left and little to do. As he as recently expressed, Kimmich wants more playing time. Maybe he will get what he wants playing for the German national team over the international break.

N/A. Nothing to write about here for Europe’s Golden Boy.. CDM. Bayern Munich. RENATO SANCHES
