Bayern Munich Monitoring The Situation Of English Midfielder
Bayern Munich have been linked to a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s young English midifielder Eric Dier.
This reports emerge despite the midfielder signed a new five year deal with Spurs in September. The English newspaper The Times report that Bayern Munich and Chelsea are interested in signing the defensive midfielder.
Dier moved to Tottenham in the summer of 2014 from Sporting Lisbon. The midfielder had a decent first season, but came into limelight last year. He played a crucial role in Tottenham’s title challenge last year. Dier formed a formidable midfield pair with Moussa Dembele.
Tottenham signed one more defensive midfielder in Victor Wanyama this summer. This has resulted in less gametime for Dier in midfield. He filled the gap in the defence when Toby Alderweirld was out due to injury. The reports from Times suggest that Dier is not happy about not being deployed in his favoured midfield position.
The Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has quickly squashed the rumours about the departure of Dier. Pochettino admits that Dier is in his long term plans and that is the reason why the club has signed him up with new deal. The Argentine admitted that the player is happy with any position he is playing.
"“I never hear from him that he wasn’t happy when we was playing like a midfielder, centre back, full back, he never come to say to me I’m not happy to play in that position”."
Bayern Munich have been linked with central midfielders recently. This would make sense as Xabi Alonso is getting into last years of the career. The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer . Bayern will be hoping to find a good defensive midfielder to replace Alonso.

Dier would be suitable for this position. The 21 year old has good experience to play outside Europe. Bayern are challenging on all fronts every season so it can work in their favour while convincing Dier to move. The only stumbling block will be the high fee Tottenham will demand due to his new contract.
