Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski extends his contract by two years with the club.

The German club announced on Tuesday that the Polish striker will stay at the club till 2021. Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich in 2014 as a free agent from rivals Borussia Dortmund. Bayern will be relieved that the forward has committed to the club after strong interest from Spanish gainst Real Madrid.

Lewandowski has been Bayern’s top scorer in the Bundesliga this year with 11 goals. He has scored 19 goals in 22 appearances this term. The Poland international has an impressive 86 goals in 122 caps for Bayern Munich. He admitted that Bayern are the right place for him to fullfill his ambitions.

"“I am very happy that the negotiations were successful and came to a positive result. That means I will stay at Bayern for a few more years. Together we have set great goals.”"

Lewandowski had previously admitted that it will be difficult to say no to Real Madrid. A transfer ban and good amount of attacking players at Madrid, helped Bayern’s cause of keeping the striker at the club.

Bayern CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge admitted that Lewandowski is important part of their club in achieving success. The German club announced a second contract renewal in a space of 15 days after Franck Ribery penned a new deal.

"“I am happy that we managed to tie one of the best centre forwards in the world to the club for the long-term.”“We have now guaranteed that another key player will continue to wear the Bayern shirt for the coming years.”"

Bayern Munich are chasing a record fifth successive Bundesliga title. The club is sitting top of the table currently merely because of a better goal difference. Lewandowski is a key player for the German team and tieing down him for a long term deal is the best possible news Bayern fans have been waiting for.
