Carlo Ancelotti has hailed Thomas Muller as an interlligent player after Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Mainz on Friday.

Bayern Munich came from behind to get their second consecutive win in Bundesliga. Ancelotti’s men are now top of the table as RB Leipzig have one game in hand. Robert Lewandowski scored a brace while Robben got his fourth goal of the Bundesliga in the game.

Ancelotti praised Muller for his performance as he assisted the second goal. Muller has endured a poor season this year as he has been suffering from a goal drought in Bundesliga. The Italian believes that Muller is a key player for his system to work well.

"“Muller played well.I’ve always said he’s a very intelligent player, who can play in any number of number of positions up front.”"

Muller has been deployed as a right winger in Ancelotti’s front three. The versatile forward was played behind the striker where he is most effective. Ancelotti was happy with Muller’s adaptability with the demand of the role in which he is played. He also admitted that this win was crucial for team’s confidence and playing away at Mainz is always difficult.

"“Muller changed his position, but I am happy with all the forwards, in the first half, they showed good combinations together.”“It was a difficult game, but it’s a good result. It was important to win here, we played against a difficult team and it’s always hard to win in Mainz.”"

Ancelotti will be happy the way his team bounced back after the initial setback. He will be concerned about the defence of the German Champions. They have leaked goals throughout the season. It has often haunted them as they have dropped points at home in the league due to shaky defence.

The Italian has kept on switching the centrebacks which is not giving them a proper rhythm. Jerome Boateng has also had a poor season which is unusual by his standards. Bayern will be hoping to fix this problem in order to challenge for all trophies.
