Bayern Munich could be set to make a £65 million bid on Everton forward Romelu Lukaku. This comes after reports that English Premier League giant Manchester United are also keen on acquiring the Belgian forward.
Romelu Lukaku is Everton’s darling right now, but they will have to fight to keep him on their squad. Everton has already had to fight to keep Lukaku on their roster during the last transfer window, but they may be forced to sell him because of heavy outside interest.
Rumors have circulated that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has kept a close eye on Lukaku ahead of the transfer window at the end of the season. However, it is news that Bayern Munich is interested in the Belgian star.
Everton bought Lukaku for £28 million from Chelsea in July of 2014, and if this deal with Bayern comes to fruition Everton could be set to make a hefty profit off him.
English news outlet The Sun reported that Bayern Munich’s head of recruitment scouted the striker during Everton’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City. The Bavarians are posed to make a record bid for the young striker after he thoroughly impressed the Bayern recruiter. Bayern Munich will certainly be keeping a close eye on Lukaku to determine whether or not they will make the bid for him.
Lukaku has been in great form in this new season. Between club and country, he has scored 9 goals in his last 11 appearances. If he can keep up similar form during this season, Bayern Munich could very feasibly make this bid.
While Bayern Munich seems to be overflowing with forwards, this could be a great move for both the club and player. Bayern has some aging stars like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry, both of whom could be offered contract extensions. A young striker like Lukaku could come into a Bayern squad and be able to learn and thrive under these older players. This trade would also give Bayern young talent to develop, which some argue they need to focus on more.
