Bayern Munich legend Lothar Mathaus believes that Carlo Ancelloti should change his approach towards players in order to get things right at Bayern Munich.

The German champions have endured a slump in form recently. They have been without a win in last three games across all competition. Eintrach Frankfurt was the latest team to frustrate Bayern Munich. The German Champions dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Frankfurt.

Ancelloti’s men dropped points against Cologne before the break. Atletico Madrid handed them their first defeat of the season. Mathaus believes that Ancelloti needs to be strict against players who are not performing right now. He admitted that Italian should not think twice while dropping the underperforming players.

"“Giving players a bit of freedom is a good thing on one hand, but you have to keep them on a short leash if you notice it is not working.”“The players will feel the consequences, particularly those who have disappointed Ancelotti, the players who have not been performing as expected. With such a strong squad, those players could be dropped from the starting XI.”"

The Italian admitted that the team is not showing the right attitude on the pitch. Bayern Munich remain top of the table in Bundesliga. They missed on a chance to extend their lead on Sunday as Borussia Dortmund had dropped points against Hertha Berlin.

Mathaus insisted that sooner rather than later Ancelloti will adopt the stricter approach. The players continue to adapt to the new manager’s philosophy. The Italian had a perfect start as a Bayern manager after eight wins in first eight competitive games. Mathaus suggested that he trusts Ancelloti to turn things around by changing his approach.

"“I think Ancelotti has what it takes to be stricter with his players. I think it is a good thing that he called on the players to take their own responsibility, but perhaps some of them did not understand it.“But I am convinced that he can be very strict if necessary. He tried a certain approach and will have to try something else now that this isn’t working.”"

Bayern Munich host PSV Eindhoven in an important Champions League group stage game. The Germans need to winn all their group games in order to remain in contention to finish first in the group.
