Arjen Robben, Thiago Alcantara, Joshua Kimmich, David Alaba, Mats Hummels, and Jerome Boateng are the Bayern Munich players featured in this match’s Combined XI.  Some, like Kimmich made the Combined XI becuase he actually played well.  Others made it simply because they did not play as bad as they could have.

Arjen Robben and Joshua Kimmich made the lineup becuase they tallied Bayern’s two goals.  Robben’s goal came in the 10th minute of play off a stellar cross from David Alaba.  The ball came in and Robben’s touch led him to the outside left of the six yard box and he brilliantly finished with his lethal left foot.  It was his second goal of the season so far.  Kimmich’s goal came off a ball from Hummels, that appeared to be a shot, but he controlled it at the top of the six yard box and promptly finished.  The 21 year old has been on fire recently, with 6 goals in his last 7 matches for Bayern.

Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng did some serious work in the back on Saturday, doing their best to clean up all the balls Bayern’s midfield let through.  They both had some quality tackles and did their best to keep Frankfurt at bay, but the lack of defense in the midfield at points made their jobs much harder.  Hummels specifically had a stellar outing in terms of passing.  He had some passes and chips that were other level quality, and it was one of the reasons Bayern was able to have some decent possession and chances.  David Alaba had a quality assist on Robben’s goal off one such lovely pass from Hummels, and he had some other good runs down the flank.

Some Bayern Munich Players Not Featured

Manuel Neuer and Kingsley Coman are left out of this week’s Combined XI becuase of uninspired play.  This was the first time this season that Neuer has let two goals past him.  He did not have many saves to make in the course of the game, though there is an argument that he could not have done anything about the goals that were let up. Still was not his best showing for Bayern.

Coman, on the other hand has struggled to break through lineups this season and Saturday was a big opportunity for him to show his new manager that he should be featured in more games.  While he has the speed and skill to break down defenses, Coman has really struggled to be successful under Carlo Ancelotti.

Here is the Combined XI for the match:

Arjen Robben – Alexander Meier

Thiago Alcantara – Szabolcs Huszti – Marco Fabian – Joshua Kimmich

David Alaba – Mats Hummels – Jerome Boateng – Timmy Chandler

Lukas Hradecky
