News is floating around German media this morning that links Bayern Munich to Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry, it what may be one of the stranger transfers of the summer.
Bayern Munich certainly loves German players and Serge Gnabry is no exception. News broke Tuesday morning that links the German giants to the German midfielder after he had a tremendously strong performance for Germany during this summer’s Olympic games in Rio. The 21 year old scored 6 goals for Germany in their Olympic campaign, which helped the team earn a silver medal.
Gnabry currently plays in the English Premier League for Arsenal, but he has only 18 appearance for their first team, plus a measly 3 appearances while on loan to West Brom last season. His contract is up with Arsenal at the end of this season, but Arsenal could be looking to make money off his transfer, especially considering how many world class midfielders they currently have on their roster.
However, it is unclear whether or not Arsenal wants to sell him. Arsene Wenger said of Gnabry: “I want to keep Serge Gnabry and to extend his contract”. Wegner also went on to say that “He’s been here for a long-time and it’s important he stays with us.”
Gnabry’s performance in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games has peaked the interest of several Bundesliga teams, but it appears that Bayern Munich now wants in on the action. What makes Bayern Munich’s interest in Gnabry particularly weird is that rumors suggest that he would be immediately loaned to Werder Bremen when the deal is completed.
It appears that Bayern Munich is interested in him, but not as a short term solution to injuries. He would be a player the club would want to develop more, but their interest in him speaks volumes to his current talent and potential growth as a player. He could be a great player for Bayern Munich in the future, especially considering how they have been struggling with injuries and how they have some aging players who many not be as available in the future.
